This spell creates a circular, horizontal plane of force, 3 feet in diameter and 1 inch thick, that floats 3 feet above the ground in an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within range. The disk remains for the duration and can hold up to 500 pounds. If more weight is placed on it, the spell ends, and everything on the disk falls to the ground.
The disk is immobile while you are within 20 feet of it. If you move more than 20 feet away from it, the disk follows you so that it remains within 20 feet of you. It can move across uneven terrain, up or down stairs, slopes and the like, but it can’t cross an elevation change of 10 feet or more. For example, the disk can’t move across a 10-foot-deep pit, nor could it leave such a pit if it was created at the bottom.
If you move more than 100 feet from the disk (typically because it can’t move around an obstacle to follow you), the spell ends.

Posted Oct 6, 2024Does immobile mean - it does not move on its own? or Can you have mage hand push this? Or can you create a wall that cannot be moved?

Posted Mar 16, 2025So I homebrewed a vehicle using this spell, coupling it with expeditious retreat and putting it into a rod that looks like handlebars. I even expanded it to be able to do multiple castings that linked to one another, forming both a car and a truck.

Posted Mar 31, 2025It's to prevent the spell from being used as a personal hoverboard, negating floor hazards, traps, and difficult terrain, ultimately cheesing a DM's map design with just one 1st-level spell.
The purpose of this spell is to help you carry heavy gear. It's basically a floating cart.

Posted Apr 3, 2026Sure... but you still have to touch the ground to move, and you also have to navigate that thing thru doors and hallways. If you use grappling hooks and ropes to pull yourself, you might as well use levitate instead and not worry about building a massive contraption inside a dungeon.

Posted Aug 24, 2026Isn't the disk supposed to move toward me from beyond 20 feet, this is an actual question would it move or not and if so at what speed?
I feel like the disk should move because the spell says it moves towards me and I am in no way being pulled towards it, so their is no resistance,
As a DM after some thought I would let it have a speed of 100 feet but still consider the lack of steering and the elevation changes.

Posted Sep 23, 2026I'm planning on essentially using this like a chariot. I'm playing a monk/druid and I can load the fighter or barbarian onto it and charge into battle. Or if the wizard gets ambushed load them on and dash them out of there. My main strategy with the druid though is to be a giant serpant and have my party ride me with the "Mounted Combatant" feat, then the disk is an additional space that someone can more easily get onto/off of.
You can also cast "At your Side", dash in with an ally on the disk, after you're done moving the person on the disk can use their reaction to move half their speed to dismount and seek cover.
This is clearly one of those spells that would have had much more utility 30/40 years ago, but there are some creative uses! Blocking a portcullis or trap, if there is a doorway you can load sandbags onto it and block the doorway, requiring enemies to crawl under it to enter. You could cast spike growth under it and turn the enterance to the battlefield into a meat grinder. Something I just thought of is crafting a small structure on it to use it as a mobile defensive structure to gain cover, then you could use it as a one-person APC. (Just stack shields against a wooden frame granting full cover from 3 directions that you can step off of, fire an arrow or spell and then hop back on, if the enemy gets close you can run away and do it again.
There are a TON of fun little things here that are super situational, but would be super fun too.

Posted Sep 24, 2026Agreed, those are some super creative uses I've never herd of before, I once made a centaur monk build that maximized speed and would serve as a mount for other players during and I had a lot of fitting and beneficial options for feats that boosted dexterity but I needed to boost wisdom at some point so I picked out ritual caster and got this spell so they could have a "magical cart" instead of a bulky normal one.

Posted Sep 27, 20265.5 ritual caster is so nice but I was reminded we’re doing 5e so I scrapped my plan to use it :(
Joke is on my DM though, I took Shadow Touched instead to get that +1 Wis, invis, and distort value lol. I do have plans for that spell when I play a wizard
