You touch an object throughout the spell’s casting. If the object is a magic item or some other magical object, you learn its properties and how to use them, whether it requires Attunement, and how many charges it has, if any. You learn whether any ongoing spells are affecting the item and what they are. If the item was created by a spell, you learn that spell’s name.
If you instead touch a creature throughout the casting, you learn which ongoing spells, if any, are currently affecting it.

Soooooooooooooooo, does this point out curses now? (I hope not)
Depends on the nature of the curse I guess. I would say no, since Bestow Curse specifically says a creature.
We'll have to wait until the Dungeon Master Guide is out to know.
According to the DMG 2024, Identify now reveals curses. Boo!
According to the DMG 2024 (Magic Item section) Identify does not!
I'm taking this as it would not reveal a Mimic as a creature but possibly as a rare item that must be identified the old fashioned way- short rests meditating on the object. I decided detect magic revealed Transmutation spells as orange and when used on a mimic the PC saw a bright orange object suggesting strong magic. I have a mimic as a thick felt cape (basically studded leather armor dress) on a wax museum dummy. A PC wants to steal it and I don't want him to find out it's a mimic until after he wears it.
Good, good.
