Using an arcane family heirloom of your choosing, a willing ancestral spirit weaves magic into a blade that can appear in and out of existence and never break. The family heirloom counts as an equipped item and also the catalyst for your attacks, meaning that you can be disarmed. If disarmed, you lose access to the Ancestral Blade cantrip until you retrieve the heirloom. However, because of the blood ties it has to you, if the heirloom is on the same plane of existence as you, you can summon it back to your hand as a bonus action on your turn.
When you hit a target with your Ancestral Blade, you are able to draw back some of the energy released to form a barrier to protect you from harm. On a successful hit, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier + your sorcerer level. At the start of your next turn, these hit points disappear. This magical weapon deals 1d8 force damage + your spellcasting modifier.
Cantrip Upgrade. The damage increases by 1d8 when you reach levels 5 (2d8), 11 (3d8), and 17 (4d8).
