You cause a nonmagical flame that you can see within range and that fits within a 5-foot Cube to either reduce in light to become match-like (5-foot radius of Dim Light), or to become brighter than a torch (Bright Light in a 30-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 30 feet). As a bonus action, you can dim/brighten the flame to provide any amount of light between these two extremes.
When making a nonmagical fire source brighter, you can choose to increase the heat output and potential Fire damage by 1d4. For example, a melee attack with a burning torch would deal 1d4+1 Fire damage (normal: 1 Fire damage), while the affected fire from a bonfire would deal 1d8 + 1d4 to a creature that enters the fire for the first time on a turn, as well as when a creature starts its turn in the fire (normal: 1d8 Fire damage).
Design Note
Affect Normal Fires is a classic 1st edition spell. This revised version has a greater range than 5th edition's Control Flames and an increased damage output for normal fires, but less utility. It is-- however-- available for Bards and Clerics.
