Briars burst from the ground entangling themselves around a target in range. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure the target takes 4d4 piercing damage, and if the target is large or smaller it becomes entangled by the briars.
While entangled by briars the target's movement speed is reduced to 0, It can free itself by spending its action (taking no additional damage) or rip itself free by using half it's movement and taking an additional 2d4 piercing damage. On a successful save, they take half as much damage and aren't entangled by briars.
At Higher Levels:
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd or higher, both the initial damage and the damage taken ripping free of the briars increases by 1d4 for each slot level above 1st.
