Raising an outstretched hand towards a creature you can see within range, you attempt to make its blood violently erupt from within. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 10d6 necrotic damage, and has its hitpoint maximum reduced by half the necrotic damage taken until it finishes a long rest. Any effect that removes a disease allows a creature's hit point maximum to return to normal early. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and doesn’t suffer a reduction to its hitpoint maximum.
If the target is reduced to 0 hit points by this damage, its blood explodes outwards, forcing any creature within 10 feet of the target to also make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 5d6 necrotic damage.
This spell has no effect on constructs or undead.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the initial damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 6th.
