You conjure a puddle of inky black substance on the ground underneath a target within range, causing them to slowly sink into the abyss.

 

The target must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target begins to sink into the quicksand-like substance, becoming restrained and taking 2d10 bludgeoning damage at the start of each of its turns while it is submerged.

 

The target can attempt to break free by using an action to make a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC. On a success, the target breaks free and can move half its normal speed for the remainder of its turn.

 

While concentrating on the spell, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to cause the puddle to shift beneath the target, forcing them to continue making Dexterity saving throws to avoid sinking further.

 

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the damage dealt by the sinking increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 4th.
