You bring forth a number of creatures you or your allies have slain within the last year — a number of your choice below or equal to your Character Level ×2 — to aid you in battle, in an unoccupied space within a range of 120 ft. They take on a more shadowy and echo-like visage prior to death, but retain their statistics from when they were alive, brought by the Game Master, and act immediately after you in Initiative Order. You can summon multiples of the same creature with the use of this spell, if it's not a Unique Entity. These creatures are stored within your own shadow, if not in need.
They remain until they are dispelled and you maintain your control over them as long as you remain on the same Crystal Sphere. They still remain under your control, if you travel to a different Plane of Existence, for a a total of 1d12 days after your departure. After the allotted time, or if they are defeated in combat, they fade away into black mist. Upon dispelling, Unique Entities cannot be summoned this way for 7 days after their departure.

Posted Nov 2, 2024i feel like this was inspired by echos of wisdom.
this would be so cool to have on the villain of a campaign, imagine going to kill them and suddenly they pull a tarrasque or something out of their pocket.

Posted Nov 8, 2024I've seen a fair amount of homebrew spells involving past enemies, but this one may just take the cake. I just see a finale session where after facing many tests and trials, the characters use this to beat the BBEG.
What I would say to add to it is maybe their spirits (being past enemies) try to make a saving throw or ability check to escape your control? It still works really well with the enemies helping you when you summon them though; great job overall! Nice concept!

Posted Nov 10, 2024This is an awesome spell but it seems a bit powerful. Maybe if it was only 3-5 creatures instead? It just seems really powerful to, as a 20th level character fighting the final boss to pull out 40 beholders or some other very powerful monster. Still this is one of the best homebrew spells I have seen!

Posted Nov 11, 2024Thank you! I chose that number of creatures, purely because of the Unique Entities clause, which would apply to Beholders, imo, given their physiology! It is ultimately up to any GM to decide what is a Unique Entity or not, but with how certain monsters work, it wouldn't be possible to summon the same Beholder multiple times.
With it being a 9th Level, along with a lot of campaigns not getting to that threshold, I feel it's fair to give this spell a bit of a gravitas it requires at that stage of play

Posted Nov 11, 2024Thanks! I would've added that, but it being a 9th Level spell, I wanted to add that extra oomph to it that's not commonly seen. Narratively, the creatures summoned are pulled from different timelines or realities, so while that risk could be possible for them to be basically resurrected by this spell, at the end of the day, ultimate control of your enemies is the game with this spell!

Posted Nov 11, 2024Agreed! This spell was actually inspired by Solo Levelling, btw! A necromancer villain can definitely pop off with this spell!

Posted Nov 12, 2024You make a really good point; this isn't often seen...at all. Very unique and yes, I have to agree that the oomph really does complete it.
