You touch the metal of a weapon and speak the word "home" or "return" to the blade in any language you can speak. The metal becomes enchanted, reducing its effective weight and gaining a base level of sentience, but only enough to remember and react to the single word you spoke.
Once the blade is enchanted, it moves at your command. You may take an attack as a bonus action with this weapon using your spell-casting modifier. This attack may be melee or thrown. On a successful attack, the weapon sprouts magical barbs, the enchantment can be dispelled by any magical means, or by destroying the weapon. If the target of the attack would not grant purchase to the weapon attack, the weapon is unable to remain in the wound and falls to the ground.
The target may attempt to remove the weapon by making a Str saving throw as an action, but takes 1d4 damage when attempting to remove it, regardless of whether it succeeds. Upon speaking the word used to cast it, the weapon violently tears itself from the wound dealing 1d8 slashing damage and returns to its sheath or scabbard, though it can be easily caught as it returns if you have a free hand. Once the blade returns, the spell fades.
This spell cannot be cast on a sentient weapon.
At Higher Levels. The damage caused by the weapon's retrieval from the wound increases to 2d8 at 5th level, 3d8 at 11th level, and 4d8 at 17th level.
