You utter a haunting incantation and make a grasping gesture, causing yellow-orange tendrils to erupt from you and lash out at all creatures within a 20-foot radius, regardless of visibility. Each creature in that area must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC.
-
On a failed save:
- The tendrils latch onto the creature, causing it to become frightened of you for the duration.
- If the creature is invisible, it becomes visible while frightened in this way.
- The creature takes 3d8 necrotic damage.
- While frightened in this way, the creature takes 1d8 psychic damage at the start of each of its turns.
-
On a successful save:
- The creature is unaffected and can't be affected by this spell for 24 hours
At the end of each of its turns, a frightened creature can repeat the Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Life Drain: At the start of each of your turns, you regain hit points equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) if at least one creature is frightened by this spell.
At Higher Levels:
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the initial psychic damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 4th.
