You target the corpse of a creature that's been dead for no longer than 24 hours that you can see within range, and detonate it. Each creature within a 5-foot-radius sphere centered on that corpse must make a Dexterity saving throw against your Spell Save DC or take 1d8 necrotic damage and be knocked prone. On a success, the creature takes half as much damage and isn't knocked prone. The size of the explosion increases by 5 feet and the damage increases by 1d8 for every size larger than medium. The Spell Save DC increases by 1 for each size larger than medium, and decreases by 1 for each size smaller than medium. If the corpse belonged to a creature that was friendly to you in life, the spell automatically fails.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 1st.
