This spell counts as both Transmutation and Necromancy.
The caster adds the blood of the chosen bird, reptile, and mammal to the alchemical mixture and pours it over the eggs which are infused with its essence by the spell. (The eggs do not need to be fertilized, but cannot be dead for more than 24 hours.)
The spell and mixture are good for up to 6 eggs which will become fertilized by the spell.
The eggs require a warm environment and daily turning in order to hatch. Eggs that have been properly tended may hatch after 30 days.
At the end of 30 days the caster needs to make a DC 15 Intelligence (Arcana) check for each egg. Success indicates that the egg hatches and produces a standard Cockatrice, a failure results in a dead egg and wasted effort.
A Cockatrice will take 6 months to reach maturity after hatching. They will need to be fed (they are omnivores, like chickens, and will eat anything they can swallow, but also need to eat small rocks as part of their venom making process.) They can be turned loose on their own in the wild after 3 months, and once fully grown can reproduce.
Female cockatrices are very rare (only 1 out of 10) and can be distinguished by their lack of a wattle and comb on their head.
This spell does not grant the caster any sort of control or protection from the hatched cockatrices which are aggressive and prone to attack anything they find threatening. They develop their petrification ability at 3 months of age.
