You harness the volatile energy of the Ashen Grove to teleport in one of two ways, choosing either Ashen Step or Ember Step when you cast this spell:
Ashen Step
You teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. Upon departure, you leave behind a swirling cloud of ash that lightly obscures the area within a 5-foot radius for 1 round. The ash is silent, does not damage creatures, and dissipates harmlessly. This method creates no sound or light, making it ideal for stealth or tactical retreats.
Ember Step
You teleport up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. Upon departure, fiery embers erupt at your original location. Each creature within 5 feet must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 1d6 fire damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one. The teleportation creates a low rumble and faint glow, noticeable within 30 feet.
- At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage for Ember Step increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 2nd.
