While many are familiar with the Magnificent Mansion spell, few are aware of its lesser prototypes, one of which was named Adequate Apartment.
You focus a larger amount of magical energy into a metal key of your choice that can now serve as a conduit to opening an extradimensional dwelling when you insert it into a door, chest or other flat surface with a hole large enough to insert the key into (including walls and floors). You cannot have the spell active on more than one key at a time and if you try to cast it on another key, the spell is dispelled on the original. As an action you, or another spellcaster can use the key to open a door to this extradimensional space that is invisible and impossible to open from the outside once closed.
Beyond the door is an apartment no larger than 250 square feet (10 sqaures) consisting of a seating arrangement for six with a painting hanging on the wall above it, two sets of bunk beds with a wardrobe between them, an outhouse, a wood burning stove and oven and a wooden barrel with a faucet above it. While all Adequate Apartments share the exact same layout, the decor changes according to the personality of the caster (wallpaper pattern, carpet and bedsheet colors, the painting above the dining table), for instance an apartment conjured by a druid might have floral patterns and a landscape painting and a cleric might create one with a depiction of their deity as the painting. When first conjured, the apartment contains a full barrel of water, cooks utensils and rations to last four people up to one week, including a bottle of fine wine labeled "housewarming present" found on the dining table, as well as replacement bedding for the four beds. The apartment has two large wardrobes and two benches that double as storage chests. The apartment has no servants, though dirt, dust and stains are magically cleaned between usages.
Every time you open the apartment, it's contents carry over from the previous time you opened the door, meaning you can store items and people inside without losing them, as long as the key remains whole. If the key is broken, however, the contents of the apartment are scattered to the Astral sea. While you are inside the apartment you are invisible to spells designed to find you like scrying and you are unable to use them from inside the apartment. If the doorway to the apartment was opened through a door or chest, you can look through the keyhole and see the outside. The doorway remains tethered to the location where you opened it for up to 12 hours, but starts to drift further and further after that duration (as described below).
0-12 hours - the entrance remains where you opened it,
12-15 hours - you exit in the same building as you opened the door in,
15-18 hours - the exit appears somewhere in a range of 5 km of where you opened it,
18-21 hours - the exit appears somewhere on the same continent as where you opened it,
21-24 hours - the exit appears somewhere on the same plane of existence as where you opened it,
after 24 hours - the exit appears on a random plane (up to DMs discretion),
Additionally, any object dropped into the outhouse toilet immediatelly drops into the Astral sea, thus it does not create any foul odours.
