Warding Thorns

You create a magical tangle of thorny vines around yourself or an ally and any creature that makes a melee attack toward them takes 1d8 piercing damage. The protected target is then gains hit points equal to the damage dealt. If the enemy goes unconscious or dies from this you only heal for what remained.
