Through this vile ritual, you momentarily shroud yourself in the essence of undeath, granting both protection and abhorrent power. To complete the casting, you must prostrate yourself before a chosen undead or corpse, allowing its foul essence to mark you.
Upon completion, you gain the following benefits and drawbacks for the spell’s duration:
- Temporary Resilience. Upon casting, you gain 1d8 temporary hit points.
- Drain Essence. As an action, you can touch a creature within reach to sap its vitality. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or lose one Hit Die (or take 1d8 necrotic damage if it has no Hit Dice remaining). You gain temporary hit points equal to 1d8.
- Undead Acceptance. Undead creatures with an Intelligence of 8 or lower and a Challenge Rating less than your level do not view you or your companions (up to a number equal to your proficiency bonus) as hostile, provided no hostile actions are taken against them. These undead will not attack or hinder you unless directly commanded to do so by a controlling force.
- Putrid Stench. Your body exudes an overwhelming smell of decay. You have disadvantage on Stealth checks, and creatures with keen smell have advantage on Perception checks to detect you.
