You conjure a portal linking an unoccupied space you can see within range to a different plane of existence. You can specify a target destination in general terms, such as the City of Brass on the Elemental Plane of Fire or the palace of Dispater on the second level of the Nine Hells, and any target pulled through the gate will be deposited in or near that destination. If you specify the City of Brass, for example, creatures might land in its Street of Steel, before its Gate of Ashes, or across the Sea of Fire from the city, at the DM's discretion.
The gate is a misshapen tear in the fabric of reality that lasts until the end of your current turn, measuring 5d4 feet in diameter. Creatures within 20 feet of the gate must make a Strength saving throw or take 3d10 force damage and be sucked through it, landing prone in an area adjacent to the other side of the gate. If a creature succeeds on the save, they only fall prone, taking no damage. Creatures occupying the same space as the gate automatically fail this saving throw. The gate pulls in any objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried, dealing 3d10 force damage to them.
If a creature is too large to fit through the gate, it must make an additional strength save or be gruesomely forced through the gate, taking an additional 3d10 force damage for every size category it exceeds the size of the unstable gate's diameter. For example, if the diameter is less than 10 feet, a Large creature would take 6d10 force damage, while a Gargantuan creature would take 12d10 force damage.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the base and additional damage increase by 1d10 for each slot level above 7th.
