You project your consciousness into a beast you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or your mind enters its body. Your body falls prone and enters a cataleptic state, appearing dead except for the faintest breathing.
While borrowing the beast's form, you:
- Can perceive through the beast's senses
- Cannot use your own body's senses
- Can use your action to return to your body at any time
- Must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw if the beast takes damage or after each hour to maintain control
- Cannot cast spells or speak
- Can communicate telepathically with the beast
At the start of the beast's turn, it makes a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, you control its actions for that turn. On a successful save, the beast acts according to its own will that turn, though you remain in its mind perceiving through its senses.
When the spell ends, you must make a Wisdom saving throw. The DC equals 10 + the number of hours (or partial hours) you spent in the beast's form. On a failed save, you are stunned for 1 minute and temporarily take on behavioral traits of the borrowed creature until you complete a long rest. These traits might include buzzing like a bee, searching for nuts like a squirrel, or displaying other instinctive behaviors of the borrowed creature.
The spell ends if:
- You use your action to end it
- Your body takes any damage
- The beast dies
- The beast moves more than 1 mile from your body
If the spell ends while you are still in the beast's mind, you take 2d10 psychic damage and are stunned until the end of your next turn as your consciousness violently returns to your body, in addition to making the Wisdom save for lingering effects.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the duration increases by 1 hour for each slot level above 3rd.
