You unleash an immense pulse of freezing energy, causing temperatures to plummet to absolute zero in an instant. Each creature in a 40-foot-radius sphere centred on a point within range must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 12d10 cold damage, becomes paralyzed for 1 minute, and is encased in jagged ice. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and is not paralyzed.
A creature paralyzed by this spell is completely encased in ice, becoming incapacitated, restrained, and unable to breathe. The ice has AC 17 and 50 hit points. To escape, a trapped creature must first succeed on a Constitution saving throw at the end of its turn. On a success, the paralysis ends, but the creature remains trapped inside the ice. To fully break free, the creature must then succeed on a Strength saving throw. The ice also shatters if destroyed by external means, immediately freeing the creature inside.
If a creature remains encased in the ice for more than two rounds, the prolonged exposure to the extreme cold causes them to become vulnerable to cold damage until they receive magical healing or are exposed to significant warmth.
