You create an intense pulse of glowing magical force. Make a melee spell attack against the target. The pulse deals 1d4 + your spell modifier of force damage to the target.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 1st level or higher, the spell adds another 1d4 per each level added and the range may increase by 5 ft per level. Any attack done beyond melee distance must make a ranged spell attack. The caster may infuse other damage types, if they have them available as a cantrip by expending a 1st level spell slot and the components available. The range remains a melee attack unless a slot higher than 1st level is used, then an additional 5ft of range can be applied and additional d4 of that damage type per level above 1st.

Example: A 4th level spell-caster fires an Arcane Blast at a goblin as a cantrip and successfully hits with a melee spell attack roll of 13 + 3 for a total of 16, which deals 1d4 + 1 force damage. On the next round, the spell-caster fires an Arcane Blast, expending a 2nd level slot, at a hobgoblin 15 ft away, rolling a 15 + 3 ranged spell attack, dealing 3d4 + 1 force damage. On the following round, the same spell-caster decides to cast Arcane Blast, expending a 1st level spell slot and infusing it with fire damage from their Firebolt spell, to a Twig Blight who is vulnerable, dealing 1d4 + 1 fire damage. On the next round, the spell-caster closes distance with the Goblin chief and expends another 2nd level spell slot, casting Arcane Blast with a successful melee spell attack, dealing 3d4+1 force damage.
