Summoning

You call forth the spirit of a monstrosity. When you cast the spell, choose a monstrous creature: Displacer Beast, Manticore, or Phase Spider, which determines certain details in its stat block. It manifests in an unoccupied space that you can see within range and uses the Monster Spirit stat block. The creature disappears when it drops to 0 Hit Points or when the spell ends.

The creature is an ally to you and your allies. In combat, the creature shares your Initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It obeys your verbal commands (no action required by you). If you don't issue any, it takes the Dodge action and uses its movement to avoid danger.

Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. Use the spell slot’s level for the spell’s level in the stat block.

Traits

Displacement (Displacer Beast only). The spirit projects a magical illusion that makes it appear to be standing near its actual location, causing attack rolls against it to have Disadvantage. If it is hit by an attack, this trait is disrupted until the end of its next turn. This trait is also disrupted while the spirit is Incapacitated or has a Speed of 0.

Actions

Multiattack. The spirit makes a number of Bite attacks equal to half this spell’s level (round down).

Bite. Melee Attack Roll: Bonus equals your spell attack modifier, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2d6 + 4 + the spell’s level Piercing damage.

Tail Spike (Manticore only). Ranged Attack Roll: Bonus equals your spell attack modifier, range 100/200 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8 + 4 + the spell's level Piercing damage.

Bonus Actions

Ethereal Jaunt (Phase Spider only). The spirit can magically shift from the Material Plane to the Ethereal Plane, or vice versa.
