Targeting a creature you can see or hear, while casting Wiretap you must keep the target in range and perceive it for the entire time. (A creature that moves out of your sight or earshot interrupts the casting of the spell but doesn't consume the spell slot.) At the end of a minute, the creature makes a wisdom saving throw, which is modified by how well you know the target and the sort of physical connection you have to it. The target doesn’t know what it is making the save against, only that it feels uneasy.

On a successful save, the target gains immunity from the spell (cast by you) for 48 hours. On a fail, the target is affected by the following effects for 4 weeks, or until targeted by a greater restoration spell or similar magic.
- You immediately know if the creature becomes the target or sender of telepathic messages, the sending spell or any similar magic. As an action you can tap into the magic for up to a minute each day, requiring concentration. While tapped in, you hear the words that are said and can determine the type of magic used.
- You immediately know if the creature becomes the target of another Wiretap, Scrying spell or similar magic, and any such magic that are still effecting it.
At the end of each week the target makes the save again, ending the effect on a success. If the effect ends before the end of the 4 weeks, the target becomes aware they were under the effects of the spell, but don't know for how long or who cast it.
Casting this spell at higher levels increases the duration by a week for each slot level above 5th.
