You open your bottle of ink and mutter an incantation, causing a red glyph to appear above a point you can see within range, before turning into a dark, thunderous cloud. Each creature in a 15-foot-radius circle centered on that point makes a Dexterity saving throw, or be struck by a bolt of red lightning, taking damage depending on how many creatures are within the spell's radius. If there is one creature within its radius, it will take 4d4 Force damage on a failed save. If there are 2-4 creatures within its radius, they will each take 2d4 Force damage on a failed save. If there are any more than 4 creatures within its radius, they will each take 1d4 Force damage on a failed save. On any successful save, damage dealt is halved. This spell cannot be affected by abilities that control which targets it can hit/deal full damage to, such as an Evocation Wizard's use of Sculpt Spells or a Sorcerer's use of Careful Spell; it will always target/deal its intended damage to anything within its area of effect. This does mean you need to be careful when casting it near allies, as it will not only reduce the damage you deal on your intended target, but also hit your ally.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The damage dice increase for every other level after 2 (level 2 is d4s, level 4 is d6s, level 6 is d8s, level 8 is d10s)
