You touch any non-magical inanimate object no larger than a 5ft cube and gesture as if you were to put it on your head as a hat. As you do, the object transmutes into a magical hat made out of that object's material. If the object has multiples materials, the hat's features are in a ratio similar to the original object. For example, if a iron-bound leather tome is transmuted, the hat will be comprised of primarily leather with iron accents and trim. You may choose the type of hat transmuted as you put it on. Some options may include but are not limited to a wizard hat, a witches hat, a top hat, a fedora, or a beret. The hat always weighs the normal weight of the chosen fashion, regardless of material type. The hat retains the feel, durability, and general properties (such as flammability) of the material is was transmuted from, but it still behaves like textile. If removed from your head, the object reverts back to its original state after 1 minute.

Alternatively, if you cast this spell using a 2nd level spell slot, you may target a single creature of medium size or smaller instead. If you do, roll 6d6. If the target creature's remaining hit points are equal to or lower than the result, that creature must make a constitution saving throw against the caster's save DC. On a failure, the creature is turned into a hat. On a success, the spell deals force damage equal to the half result of the roll rounded up, and is knocked prone.

The hat's composition of skin, hair, teeth, nails, or other body parts, as well as any identifying facial features, tattoos or the like are arranged in a manner up to the caster. While the creature exists as a hat, it cannot move or speak, see or hear, but can still perceive touch and is otherwise aware of it's existence as a hat. The hat has resistance to all damage while worn, but otherwise takes damage as the caster does by effects such as fireball, explosions, or other magical or non-magical areas of effect. The hat is immune to poison and disease, although a poison or disease already in its system is suspended, not neutralized. Additionally, the hat does not need to eat or drink. If the hat's hit points are reduced to zero, the creature dies and the hat begins to decompose at a rate commensurate with the ambient surroundings. When the spell ends, the resulting object is the creature's corpse.

This spell ends early early if targeted by Dispel Magic, Remove Curse, or if the caster dies or becomes Incapacitated.

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the dice increase by 2d6 for each slot level above 2nd, the size of the object you can touch increases by 5ft, and the size of the creature you can target increases by one tier, up to huge.
