A spurt of blood spins into a thin but highly compressed and dense shield protecting you from harm. Choose up to 4 hit die, and sacrifice that amount amount of HP as the material component of the spell. The shield's base strength will provide a +2 bonus to AC, with each hit die greater than 1 adding an additional 1. The shield will also have HP equal to that offered as the material component of the spell.
Each time an attack penetrates the shield, an amount equal to half the damage done to the caster is subtracted from the shield's HP, representing blood being blown away. If the shield is reduced to 0 HP, the spell ends. Once the spell ends, any remaining HP of the shield is restored to the caster, as the blood returns to their veins.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the maximum amount of hit die that can be sacrificed increases by 1.
