You choose a 5-foot-square space on a flat surface that you can see within range, whilst standing on the ground. Two magical brass chains shoot from your hands into the ground at your feet, and identical chains erupt from the surface at the target location, grasping for a creature within 25 feet of it that you can see.
The target must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a successful save, the target takes 2d6 slashing damage and the spell ends. On a failed save, the target is restrained and pulled to the surface for the spell’s duration.
Your speed becomes zero while concentrating on the spell, but you can still move freely within your current space for the purposes of dexterity saving throws and somatic components. If a creature or effect attempts to move you from this space, make an intelligence saving throw contested by the creature's strength check or the displacement effect's DC. On a successful save, you remain rooted in place. On a failed save, the spell ends.
As an action while concentrating on the spell, you can cause one of the following effects;
- The chains constrict the restrained target, who must make a Strength saving throw. It takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
- The chains shift around the restrained target, making it more difficult to escape. The spell save DC increases by a number equal to half the spell slot used to cast it (minimum 1) until the start of your next turn.
To break out, the restrained target can make a Strength check against your spell save DC. On a success, the target escapes and is no longer restrained by the chains, and the spell ends.
