You form a portal linking an unoccupied space you can see to any specific time period, and/or location. If you form this portal without a specific time and/or location, the DM will choose one for you.
If you attempt to open a portal to a time in the past, and your motivation is to change that past to a different future, the portal does not open.
If you attempt to open a portal to a time in the past, and your motivations are to either view the past as it was or to set things in motion with the harmony of fate and destiny, the portal opens.
The portal is a slit in the fabric of reality, bordered by a white light. As you cast this spell, you can orient the portal in any direction you choose. The portal shrinks slowly until it disappears for the duration.
The portal has a front and a back on each plane where it appears. Travel through the portal is possible by moving through either side. Anything that does so is instantly transported to the other plane, appearing in the unoccupied space nearest to the portal.
Deities and other planar rulers can prevent portals created by this spell from opening in their presence or anywhere within their domains.
