You gather ash and soot into each hand, drawing them back before thrusting them forward to unleash a searing torrent of flame. Your hands are integral to maintaining this spell. Attempting to use them for any other purpose immediately ends the spell.
Each creature caught in the cone(s) must make a Dexterity saving throw.
-
On a failed save, a creature takes 4d8 fire damage, has its movement speed reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn, and is considered lightly obscured while inside the flame.
-
While within the cone, creatures have disadvantage on ranged attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks. Attacks against them at range are made with disadvantage.
-
On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and suffers no other effects.
At the start of each of your turns, if a creature remains within the cone, it must repeat the saving throw, suffering damage and effects on a failed save.
You must use your action each turn to maintain and direct the torrent of flame. You may reposition the cone when you take this action.
Split Mode:
You may separate your hands, directing two smaller torrents of flame in different directions.
-
Each cone's range is reduced by 10 feet (becoming 20-foot cones).
-
The damage dealt by each cone is reduced by one damage die (dealing 3d8 fire damage).
Creatures caught in both cones must make a separate Dexterity saving throw against each.
At Higher Levels:
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher:
-
The damage increases by 1d8 per slot level above 3rd.
-
The range of the cone increases by 10 feet per slot level above 3rd.
(For example, at 4th level: 5d8 damage and a 40-foot cone. At 5th level: 6d8 damage and a 50-foot cone.)
Split Mode cones also benefit from the increased range (still reduced by 10 feet from the new base).
Concentration Variant (5th Level and Higher):
When casting this spell using a 5th-level slot or higher, you may choose to reduce the total damage dice by 2 to remove the need for concentration. If you do so, the spell's maximum duration becomes 30 seconds (5 rounds).
Spell Scaling Table:
| Spell Slot | Damage | Cone Range |
|---|---|---|
| 3rd-level | 4d8 | 30 ft |
| 4th-level | 5d8 | 40 ft |
| 5th-level | 6d8 | 50 ft |
| 6th-level | 7d8 | 60 ft |
| 7th-level | 8d8 | 70 ft |
| 8th-level | 9d8 | 80 ft |
| 9th-level | 10d8 | 90 ft |
(Split Mode cones are each 10 feet shorter and 1 die lower.)
