Your trace a circle of crackling blue arcane electricity in the air before you with both hands. At a point you can see within 150 feet, an identical coil appears in mid-air. The emergence of the coil is accompanied by bright blue sparks and a buzzing hum that rises quickly in pitch and intensity. Upon completing the spell, jagged arcs of incandescent sapphire lighting erupt in every direction with a cacophonous crack of thunder and the sharp scent of ozone. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on the coil must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, targets take 8d6 lightning damage and are all hurled 10 feet directly away from the coil. Targets who succeed the Dexterity saving throw take half damage from the lightning strike and are unaffected by any electrokinetic effects.

Alternatively, the massive ionic discharge can instead be condensed into a single blinding white bolt of tremendous violence that strikes a solitary target, dealing 12d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If the target's saving throw is unsuccessful, the bolt hurls the target 20 feet away in a direction chosen by the caster.

Targets made of metal or wearing heavy armor have disadvantage on the saving throw. The lightning arcs around corners and ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 4th.
