You touch the ground of a location, an item, or a person. Even if it is a non-sentient object or willing to allow access to the memory, it must make an Intelligence saving throw against your spell save DC, adding the number of years it has been since the event occurred to the roll. On a failed save, you witness one event of your choosing that you have basic knowledge of from the perspective of the target. If you lose concentration or contact with the target before the spell ends, you will only vaguely remember the event.
Material components: The materials for this spell are always required, even when using a spellcasting focus.
Spell designer's disclaimer: this was made for use in 5e (not 5.5e) for a very specific campaign by a very specific character. This type of spell may not be suitable for all campaigns, especially if the DM or GM does not plan on writing detailed backstories for key items or locations. Give this to your players at your own risk
