You can blind, deafen or mute a foe. Choose one creature that you can see within range to make a Wisdom saving throw. If it fails, the target is either blinded or deafened or the mute condition (your choice) for the duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make a Constitution saving throw. On a success, the spell ends.
In terms of being muted, they simply aren't able to form any words at all, all words come out as a restrained groan as they breathe out, their lips quiver uncontrollably when they try to move them to form a word, their tongue goes numb and it's like their vocal cords have gone stiff. This means magic spells with the vocal component can't be casted while under the mute condition; any ability check involving speaking automatically fails.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 2nd and you gain an additional 1 minute of spell duration for each spell slot above 2nd.
* - (A verbal component required you to say the words "incapax" as loud or quiet as you prefer)
