You extend your will over blood, pulling it gently from a creature to be stored or manipulated. Choose one creature within range that is either dead or willing and alive and has an open wound. As long as you maintain concentration, you draw blood from the target, directing it into a container you hold, such as a vial or flask.
This spell does not harm living creatures — only willing subjects can be affected while alive, and the process is painless and non-invasive (beyond the initial wound). The amount of blood you draw depends on the size and state of the creature:
-
Small: Up to 1 vial (4 oz)
-
Medium: Up to 2 vials
-
Large or larger: Up to 4 vials (DM’s discretion)
You cannot animate or control the creature’s body, nor perform complex manipulation beyond guiding the blood through the air into a container. Blood that is coagulated, burnt, dried, or magically inert cannot be drawn.
At Higher Levels.
-
5th level: You can extract twice the amount of blood per minute.
-
11th level: You can draw from two valid targets simultaneously (within range).
-
17th level: Range increases to 30 feet, and you can move the blood around corners or through small openings.
