You weave together threads of shadow and psionic energy to create a sword of solidified gloom in your hand. This magic sword lasts until the spell ends. It counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. It deals 5d8 psychic damage on a hit and has the finesse and light properties. In addition, when you use the sword to attack a target that is in dim light or darkness, you make the attack roll with advantage.
You may also make a ranged attack with the sword at a target within 30 feet of you. If you do, treat the target's Intelligence score as their AC. On a hit, it deals 10d8 + 4 psychic damage and the target is stunned for 1 minute. The target can make an Intelligence saving throw at the end of each of it's turns with DC equal to their Intelligence score, ending the effect on a success.

Posted Aug 15, 2020Does the sword dissapear if you use its ranged form or does it reform and you can keep using it in its melee form? It seems to be the case, but them I’m confused as to why the ranged attack does much more damage. I would use the ranged attack every time, more damage and an effect.
Second question is whether it was meant for the creatures DC to be based on its intelligence score. This is a very cool concept and I just want to make sure it is what I think it is.

Posted Aug 18, 2020To the first question, the intention is that you lose the blade after you make the ranged attack, but I see that I forgot to add that clause in the wording of the spell. I will edit that in the new version.
For the second question, yes. The spell was designed to be used against a High Intelligence creature, so they have to beat their own Intelligence score for the DC.
