You conjure a shimmering chain of protective abjuration energy that leaps between up to three creatures of your choice within range. Each target gains the following benefits while the spell is active:
-
They gain +1 to AC and +1 to all saving throws.
-
When a protected creature is hit by a weapon or spell attack, it can use its reaction to transfer 1d6 of the incoming damage to another creature also affected by Aegis Chain within 30 feet (if willing, if not, then they have to make a wisdom save). The transferred damage is converted to force damage. If the creatures have not been instructed or affected by the spell before, they will not know of the abilities, thus they can make an arcana check dc 16 when they get hit to ascertain the fact that they can send 1d6 of damage done to them to another linked creature. If the a linked creature is not willing to take the damage and makes their save, it is sent back to the original source as force damage.
-
If all linked creatures are within 10 feet of each other, the bonus to AC and saves increases to +2.
The glowing chain is visible as faint light blue or gold energy linking the bonded creatures, and flickers slightly when damage is transferred.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you can link one additional creature per spell slot level above 3rd.
