You can take a corpse or skeleton of a creature and not only reanimate it with necromantic life, but even force it to fight under your command. Choose one completed skeleton or a corpse of a creature within range. Each corpse or skeleton becomes a zombified or skeletal version of the creature it was in life under your control.
The game statiatics remain the same for the creature as it was in life, with one difference. You may choose one of the following based on the creature's form:
- If it is in a skeletal form: it gains a vulnerabllility to bludgeoning damage, but the damage type for any attack this creature makes may change to Necrotic.
- If it is in a zombie form: it gains the ability Undead Fortitude. (If at any time damage reduces the zombie to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5+ the damage taken. On a success, it maintains 1 hit point.)
As a bonus action on each of your turns, you can mentally command any creature you animated with this spell if the creature is within 120 feet of you. You decide what action the creature will take and where it will move during its next turn, or you can issue a course of action (limited to a sentence or two), such as to guard a particular chamber or corridor. If a command is issued for a course of action, the creature can continue the course of action for the entire duration of the spell, sooner if the course of action can be completed in a shorter time. If you issue no commands, or a task has been completed and no new commands have been issued, the creature acts of its own accord.
The creature is under your control for 24 hours, after which it stops obeying any command you have given it. To maintain control of the creature for another 24 hours, you must cast this spell on the creature before the current 24-hour period ends. This use of the spell may either reassert your control over the previously controlled creature, or animate a new one.
Once this spell has been used to animate the corpse or skeleton of a creature, and that creature has been killed or destroyed, that same corpse or skeleton cannot be reanimated with this same spell.
