You hurl an undulating, warbling mass of chaotic energy at a target within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 3d8 base damage (the damage type is determined by the table below).

If you roll an 8 on any of the damage dice, roll an additional d8 and add it to the damage total. This effect can happen a number of times equal to the spell slot level used for the casting of this spell.

In addition to the damage dice, roll 1d10 to determine the damage type:

Whenever you roll a 10 on the d10 to determine the attack's damage type, the spell leaps from the target to another target within 30 ft. of the original target, and the amount of damage is the same for all targets for this spell. If multiple targets are within range of this secondary effect, you choose the secondary target, but if none are within range, this effect fails. The spell can leap a number of times equal to the spell slot level used for the casting of this spell. If the maximum number of leaps is reached, roll a d10 until the damage type is determined for each attack.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, add 1d8 to the base damage dice.
