Damage/Effect

You enhance your performance by choosing an effect(s) from an effect group you select when you cast the spell.  You can have a number of simultaneously active effects equal to your Bard level+1, up to a maximum of 5.   You can swap one active effect for another at will for the duration of the spell.  Effective use of this spell to enhance a performance can, at the DM’s discretion, give advantage on your Performance roll.

Musician effects – these effects apply to music you are playing and/or singing

  • Practice Room – anyone more than 5’ away will hear you are if you were 100 feet further away, soft playing/singing may be inaudible
  • Fill the Hall – everyone within 100 feet indoors or 60 feet outdoors can hear you as if only 10’ away; this effect doesn’t extend through walls/closed doors
  • Stereo – you pick a point up to 30 unobstructed feet away and your music is heard by listeners as if coming from both you and that point
  • Loop – you can mentally select any passage you are playing and/or singing (your choice) then, later in the performance have that selection magically replay while you play and/or sing something else (including using a different instrument); you can reuse a ‘recorded’ passage as many times a desired; each ‘recorded’ passage counts as a separate effect; if you have multiple ‘recorded’ passages, you can play them back simultaneously and they don’t have to start and/or end at the same time
  • Percussive Effect – You create a harmless percussive audio effect of up to 6 seconds in length which originates 5 feet behind of you and is audible to your listeners. This effect can be used to provide a simple beat, either at a steady tempo (like a metronome) or with a tempo that varies.

Storyteller/Poet/Comedian/Puppeteer effects – these effects apply to your speaking voice

  • Practice Room – anyone more than 5’ away will hear you are if you were 100 feet further away, soft speech may be inaudible
  • Fill the Hall – everyone within 100 feet indoors or 60 feet outdoors can hear you as if only 10’ away; this effect doesn’t extend through walls/doors
  • Ventriloquism – you pick a point up to 30 unobstructed feet away and your voice is heard as if coming from there instead of from you
  • Voices – you can change your voice to imitate characters in your story/poem and/or a narrator; these voices can only be generic representations (e.g., a young girl, a gruff orc warrior) or an “impression” of someone, but isn’t good enough to fool someone very familiar with that person’s voice. If multiple impressions are used within a single round, each voice counts as an effect.
  • Sound Effect – You create a harmless audio effect of up to 6 seconds in length which originates 5 feet in front of you and is audible to your listeners; this must be a sound you have heard but cannot reproduce intelligible speech.

A caster is able, through practice, to discover alternative verbal and somatic components that fit seamlessly into their mode of performance such that they don’t appear to be casting a spell at the start of or during their performance.  At the discretion of the DM, effective use of this cantrip to enhance a performance may give a bonus from +1 to +3 on a Performance check.
