You create an illusory sound at a point you choose within range. The sound may remain constant or change at different times during the spell’s duration. You can produce voices, footsteps, music, animal noises, or other recognizable sounds. If you create the noise of multiple creatures speaking at once, the conversation is meaningless gibberish (though it may resemble crowd chatter).

Volume by Spell Level. The maximum loudness depends on the spell slot level used:

Level 2 (Conversation): Audible to 100 feet (whispers, normal speech, footsteps, small animals).
Level 3 (Shouting): Audible to 300 feet (a crowd yelling, dogs barking, drums).
Level 4 (Battlefield): Audible to 1,000 feet (a lion’s roar, a marching army, crashing surf).
Level 5+ (Thunderous): Audible to 1 mile (a dragon’s roar, thunderclap, avalanche).

Interacting with the Illusion. Physical interaction reveals the sound is illusory. A creature can use its action to make an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC. On a success, the sound becomes faint for that creature.

Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. If you cast this spell using a level 5+ spell slot, the spell lasts until dispelled.
