When you speak the words of your patron, the air fills with the sound of muffled sobbing and rushing tides. Saltwater seeps from the ground or walls, twisting into spectral chains of brine and kelp. These chains lash around a creature you can see within range, judging its soul.
The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained for the duration as the chains drag them down.
At the start of each of the target’s turns, they take 2d8 cold damage, as if drowning in grief.
If the target has harmed innocents, betrayed companions, or broken an oath (at the DM‘s discretion), the damage becomes 2d8 necrotic instead, and the target has disadvantage on saving throws to escape the chains.
At the end of each of its turns, the target may repeat the Strength saving throw, ending the effect on a success.
At Higher Levels
When you cast this spell using a slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by +1d8 per slot level above 3rd
