Verdant Apotheosis
9th-level transmutation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a living seed from the Tree of Urrden, which is consumed)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You press the seed of Urrden into the earth or fling it out to a location in range, and in an instant it surges upward, becoming a radiant, towering tree of emerald light and bark as old as the world itself. Its roots coil outward, splitting stone, while branches unfurl into a vast canopy that sanctifies the battlefield with primal life-force. When you cast this spell, a colossal solid tree erupts at a point you can see within range with the following rules:
Physical Presence of the Tree.
- The trunk is a 10-foot-wide up to a 120-foot tall cylinder and counts as cover. If cast indoors, the tree stops at the height of the room it was cast in and the branches expand across the ceiling.
- The trunk exudes a 60-foot cylindrical aura.
- The tree itself is a Gargantuan object with AC 15 and 150 hit points and cannot be moved by any means. If destroyed, the spell immediately ends.
- Branches and roots are solid enough to climb; the canopy is considered difficult terrain for hostile creatures moving through it.
- The tree counts as ethereal for the caster. (you can see through it)
While the tree stands, the following effects occur:
Roots of Binding.
- The ground in the radius becomes difficult terrain for hostile creatures.
- Hostile creatures that start their turn within the radius must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC or be restrained until the start of their next turn.
- Flying creatures within 30 feet of the trunk are lashed by branches that drag them downward on a failed save, leaving them restrained and prone until their next turn. (This effect can only force one save a turn on each unique creature.)
Canopy of Renewal.
At the start of each living ally’s turn while within the radius, they gain 20 temporary hit points. This TempHP does not stack with itself or other sources of temp HP.
Song of the Great Tree.
You may use your bonus action to invoke the wisdom of Urrden. Choose up to 2 allies within the radius and that you can see. Those creatures gain a boon that allows them to automatically succeed their next saving throw.)
Withering Judgment.
Enemies that enter or begin their turn within the radius take 5d12 psychic damage, as the overwhelming consciousness of the Great Tree presses into their minds, unraveling thought and will.
At the End of the Spell
When concentration ends, the tree bursts into a storm of radiant leaves and seeds.
- Allies within the radius are bathed in its glow, regaining 4d6 hit points.
- Enemies within the radius are Shunted 10 feet outside of the radius in as straight a line as possible as its roots and branches recoil in a final surge of power. If two or more creatures would end this movement in the same square, they instead finish it side by side in a random order.
A small, harmless sprout remains where the tree grew—proof that Urrden’s reach lingers even far from the grove.
* - (1 Seed from the Tree of Urrden which is consumed upon casting)
