Necrotic

You exhale a breath of withering flame, a corruption born of both decay and divine fire. The vitality of your target turns to cinder — leaves curl, flesh cracks, and color drains into ash.

Choose one creature, object, or plant within range. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 8d8 necrotic damage, or half as much on a successful one.

If the target is a plant creature or a magically animated plant, it makes the saving throw with disadvantage, and the spell deals maximum damage.
If the target is a nonmagical plant (such as a tree, shrub, or crop), it withers instantly, its matter reduced to fine grey dust that scatters on the air.

When you cast Ashen Decay, the air ripples with heat; a halo of faint golden-red scales glows around your eyes, and the scent of burnt cedar and blood fills the air. The fire you command does not burn bright — it consumes quietly, like grief turned inward.

  • If a creature is killed by this spell, its remains crumble into fragile, ashen husks that dissolve in a faint updraft of golden sparks.

  • Casting Ashen Decay near intense life energy (forests, sacred groves, or holy sites) leaves a visible “scar” — a pale grey patch of earth that resists regrowth for days.
