Tendrils of snakelike crystal burst from the caster's feet and rush across the floor in wavy patterns towards up to three targets within range that are touching the ground. Each tendril explodes into a 15-foot tall spire of crystal.  Each target must make a dexterity saving throw. On a successful save the target takes half damage, otherwise they take 2d8 cold damage and 4d8 piercing damage and are restrained.

Each shard explodes at a 45-degree angle from the floor towards its target. Hit or miss, save or fail, each creature in a 5 foot sphere around the target (but not the target itself) takes 1d4 cold damage and 1d4 piercing damage as a nova of icy needles are expelled at high speed.

The tendrils leave trails of slippery ice in their wake, creating difficult terrain in a 5-foot wide path. Any creature attempting to walk over this ice must succeed on a DC 7 acrobatics check or fall prone.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a slot of 8th level or higher, the number of targets increases by 3 for each slot level above 7th.
