Damage/Effect

You create a magically binding contract between yourself and one willing creature you touch for the duration of the spell. Both participants must understand the contract’s terms. When the spell finishes casting, the terms are inscribed onto the parchment and sealed with arcane sigils.

Each creature involved must verbally affirm acceptance. When both have accepted, the contract becomes magically binding.

If either creature knowingly and willingly breaks a term of the contract, they suffer a Contract Breach penalty. The penalty depends on the spell level used to cast Contract Seal.

A creature cannot be forced to accept the contract by the spell. If a creature’s will is magically overridden (such as by charm person or dominate person), the spell automatically fails.

At Higher Levels

When cast using a higher-level spell slot, the contract allows for increasingly powerful terms and penalties. You choose one effect per spell slot level above 2nd.

3rd Level — Binding Clause:
If a creature breaks the contract, they take 2d6 psychic damage and have disadvantage on all ability checks for 1 hour.

4th Level — Truth Clause:
While the contract is active, neither party can knowingly speak a direct lie to the other. They may refuse to answer.

5th Level — Geas Clause:
If a creature breaks the contract, they become affected by the geas spell (no concentration required), which lasts for 30 days and compels them to fulfill an agreed-upon consequence written in the contract. This geas does not count against the caster’s spell limits.

6th Level — Enforcement Clause:
The contract cannot be removed except by greater restoration, wish, or both parties voluntarily ending it together. If one party dies, the contract immediately ends with no penalty.

7th Level — Forfeit Clause:
If a creature breaks the contract, they must make a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, a magical brand appears on their body (location chosen by the DM), marking them as oathbreakers. The brand cannot be removed short of a wish spell.

8th Level — Soulbound Clause:
When a creature breaks the contract, their soul becomes tethered. They cannot benefit from resurrection magic aside from wish until their contractual breach is resolved.

9th Level — Absolute Pact:
The contract becomes an artifact-level magical pact. Any penalty written into the contract is enforced as long as it does not cause immediate death. Additionally, both parties gain telepathic communication with each other across any distance and any plane.
