By speaking binding words of pact-weaving, you offer a willing creature within range a magically enforced agreement. The spell conjures an ethereal parchment and quill visible to all creatures within 10 feet. The caster and target must verbally state the terms, conditions, obligations, and penalties of the pact; these words inscribe themselves onto the parchment as they are spoken.
Both participants must willingly agree to the written terms. Once both verbally confirm their acceptance, the parchment burns away in violet flame, sealing the contract.
The spell remains in effect until all conditions are fulfilled or until one participant violates the agreed terms.
If the contracted creature violates any term, the spell enacts the punishment defined by the caster at the time of the pact. There are:
-
Eternal curses
-
Permanent transformations
-
Forced servitude
-
Ability score reduction
-
Soul-binding
-
Conscious torment
-
Death (instant or recurring)
-
Any supernatural effect the DM allows
Because the punishment is part of the spell’s structure, it does not need to obey normal game limits. As long as the target is willing when the contract is formed, anything stated becomes enforceable.
Punishments cannot be resisted unless the contract itself includes a clause allowing resistance.
This spell is a law-woven enchantment, not a moral one. The magic enforces only the literal written or spoken words of the agreement.
This means:
-
Clever wording can completely bypass intended meaning.
-
Ambiguities fall in favor of the creature attempting to exploit them.
-
Omitted details grant freedom.
-
“Spirit of the contract” is meaningless — only exact phrasing matters.
Creatures can attempt Intelligence (Investigation), Insight, or Deception checks to detect or create loopholes during the formation of the contract, if the DM allows.
The contract ends only if:
-
All terms are completed,
-
A clause of termination written in the pact is triggered, or
-
Wish or divine intervention is used to erase the pact from reality.
Dispel magic cannot end this spell unless the contract itself includes permission for it.
If no termination clause is included, the spell is perpetual and unbreakable.
