You summon a writhing barrier of living, blood-slick tissue that feeds on nearby creatures. The wall appears at a point you can see within range and can be up to 60 feet long, 20 feet high, and 1 foot thick, or a 20-foot-diameter ring, 20 feet high and 1 foot thick.

Creatures inside the wall’s space when it appears must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d8 necrotic damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one.

Vampiric Aura

One side of the wall, chosen when you cast the spell, radiates a draining aura. A creature that ends its turn within 10 feet of that side of the wall must make a Constitution saving throw.
On a failed save, the creature takes 2d8 necrotic damage, and you regain hit points equal to half the necrotic damage dealt.
On a successful save, it takes half as much damage, and you regain no hit points.

Passing Through the Wall

A creature that willingly or unwillingly passes through the wall takes 4d8 necrotic damage. It must also succeed on a Strength saving throw or be Restrained by the gripping tendrils until the start of its next turn.

This damage is necrotic to prevent stacking too much slashing damage into one spell and keep it consistent with the vampiric theme.
