Description:
You summon a mass of heavy, dark ethereal chains that shimmer with voidlight and cling to the edges of the Material Plane. The chains occupy a 10-foot square space of your choice within range and float in the air, writhing like a nest of living serpents. They obey your mental commands, acting on your initiative.
As a bonus action on each of your turns, you can direct the chains to perform one of the following effects within 60 feet of their location:
Chain Actions:
-
Grasping Bind:
The chains lurch out to grab a creature within 10 feet. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or become grappled and restrained (escape DC = your spell save DC). While restrained, the creature takes 4d6 force damage at the start of each of its turns. You may only have one creature restrained in this way at a time. -
Dragging Snare:
If the chains are restraining a creature, you can drag that creature up to 30 feet in any direction. The creature is pulled along the ground or through the air (if supported by surfaces), provoking opportunity attacks as normal. -
Whipping Slam:
The chains strike out in a lashing arc. Choose one creature within 15 feet of the chains. That creature must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 4d10 force damage (half on success) and be knocked prone. -
Chain Wall (1/turn):
The chains form a temporary wall of interlocking links in a 15-foot line, 10 feet high and 5 feet thick. The wall grants three-quarters cover and lasts until the start of your next turn or until you command the chains again. -
Shackling Leap:
You move the chains up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. If the chains pass through a creature during this movement, that creature must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d10 force damage and have their speed halved until the start of your next turn.
At Higher Levels.
When cast using a 6th-level spell slot or higher, the damage from Whipping Slam increases by 1d10 and Grasping Bind by 1d6 for each slot level above 5th.
