You touch a willing creature and inscribe a dormant ward of divine refuge upon it. The ward remains until it triggers or the spell ends.
Trigger
The first time before the spell ends that the warded creature would be reduced to 0 hit points by damage dealt by a hostile creature, the ward triggers, the spell ends, and a sanctuary of candlelight flares into being. The ward doesn’t trigger if the warded creature is reduced to 0 hit points by damage from a creature that is not hostile to it, as determined by the DM.
Sanctuary
When triggered, a 20-foot-radius, 20-foot-high cylinder centered on the warded creature appears and lasts for 10 minutes. The area is filled with dim light and moves with the warded creature (including if it is carried).
Kindling Surge. When the sanctuary appears, the warded creature regains hit points equal to 3d8 + your spellcasting ability modifier. This healing occurs as part of resolving the triggering damage, before determining whether that damage kills the warded creature outright (such as by massive damage). Then the triggering damage is resolved against the warded creature normally.
In addition, up to five other creatures of your choice that are friendly to the warded creature and within the sanctuary at that moment regain the same number of hit points.
While in the sanctuary, the warded creature and creatures friendly to it gain the following benefits:
-
Merciful Spark. The first time on each of your turns that you regain hit points while inside the sanctuary, you regain an additional 1d4 hit points.
-
Safe Passage. Opportunity attacks against you are made with disadvantage while you are inside the sanctuary.
-
Refusal of the Final Light. If you would be required to make a death saving throw while inside the sanctuary, you instead become stable (no death saving throw is made). Once this benefit affects you, it can’t affect you again for the rest of this sanctuary’s duration.
Hostile creatures gain no benefits from the sanctuary.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the healing of Kindling Surge increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 6th.
* - ((five small candles worth at least 25 gp total, which the spell doesn’t consume))
