A storm cloud appears at a point within range that you can see above yourself. It takes the shape of a Cylinder that is 60 feet tall with a 120-foot radius.
When you cast the spell, choose a point equal to your spellcasting modifier (minimum of 2) that you can see under the cloud. A lightning bolt shoots from the cloud to that point. Each creature within 5 feet of that point makes a Dexterity saving throw, taking 3d10 Lightning damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one.
You can stack the lighting bolt with another on the same point to a maximum of 10, augment it as described by the table below:
|
2 Bolts |
Damage: 4d10 Lightning damage and 1d8 Thunder damage |
|
3 Bolts |
Damage: 4d10 Lightning damage and 2d8 Thunder damage |
|
4 Bolts |
Damage: 5d10 Lightning damage and 2d8 Thunder damage |
|
5 Bolts |
Damage: 5d10 Lightning damage and 3d8 Thunder damage |
|
6 Bolts |
Damage: 6d10 Lightning damage and 3d8 Thunder damage |
|
7 Bolts |
Damage: 6d10 Lightning damage and 4d8 Thunder damage |
|
8 Bolts |
Damage: 6d10 Lightning damage and 4d8 Thunder damage |
|
9 Bolts |
Damage: 6d10 Lightning damage and 4d8 Thunder damage and 2d6 Force damage |
|
10 Bolts |
Damage: 6d10 Lightning damage and 4d8 Thunder damage and 3d6 Force damage |
Until the spell ends, you can take a Magic action to call down lightning in that way again, targeting the same point or a different one.
If you’re outdoors in a storm when you cast this spell, the spell gives you control over that storm instead of creating a new one. Under such conditions, the spell’s Lightning damage increases by 1d10.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. If you cast this spell using a level 8 spell slot, the lightning bolts begin as if it is 2 bolts. If you cast this spell using a level 9 spell slot, the lightning bolts begin as if it is 3 bolts. Stacking with another bolt increases the number on the table by 1.
