Cataclysmic Cascade

Spell Description

You release a chain of arcane surges drawn from your own mana and the surrounding ambient magic. The surge is unusually precise, striking the target you intend, a result of harmony between your mind, mana, and the ambient energy. Each instance of the cascade deals force damage equal to the declared spell level. The alignment is delicate, however, and any loss of focus may disrupt the spell, causing it to backfire. You may stop the cascade after any instance.

Slot Chain

You must have all intermediate spell slots from 5th up to the declared level. All slots up to the last instance cast are expended if the spell resolves normally. If a natural 1 occurs on a control check all reserved slots up to and including the declared level are expended.

Damage per Instance

Each instance rolls the damage dice of the declared intended level.

Instance Resolution

For each instance roll the damage for the declared level then roll a d20 for control

Damage ignores resistance but not immunity

Catastrophic Instability

On a natural 1 roll a d4 to determine how many instances hit you. Each instance deals the same force damage rolled for the failed instance. The cascade ends

Mana Volatility

If cast again before completing a long rest the first instance of the cascade is rolled at disadvantage. If this instance fails (2–5) you take damage as if it were a 9th-level instance. Subsequent instances resolve normally
