If you have at least 100 gold pieces in your inventory that the spell can consume then you can cast freely. Until the spell ends, your skin or just a portion of it turns into solid gold, liquid gold covers your whole body-- or a portion of it -- and your AC is boosted to no less than 16, regardless of what kind of armor your wearing. The spell does not affect your clothes or anything you carry.
